On this page, you’ll find some information about previous work we have carried out.
Toothill Court
Toothill Court was a development in the centre of Peterborough that involved converting a disused, six-storey office building into a residential block of flats. One of the major issues here was that the contractors were living on the premises for the duration of the construction programme.
DB Fire Safety Limited was involved from the beginning of the project, advising contractors about the measures required to ensure the safety of all persons on the site in the event of a fire emergency. This included the installation of a fire detection and alarm system, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers. Our advice resulted in the lifting of an enforcement notice, issued jointly by the local fire authority and the HSE.
We were further involved in carrying out monthly site visitors, monitoring the fire procedures and carrying out the ultimate fire risk assessment of the building prior to the occupation of its 115 flats.
Compton House
Compton House was a development in the centre of Northampton that involved converting the disused parts of an office building into student accommodation. David Black of DB Fire Safety Limited was involved with the project from before any construction work was undertaken.
This involvement included advising on the appropriate measures for ensuring the safety of all contractors, as well as other businesses still occupying parts of the building, in the event of a fire emergency. This included the installation of a fire detection and alarm system, emergency lighting, dry risers, smoke extraction, and fire extinguishers.
Arden House
Arden House is a development in Birmingham that involved converting a disused office building into a residential block of flats. DB Fire Safety Limited was involved from the beginning of the project, advising the contractors on the measures necessary for ensuring the safety of all persons on the site in the event of a fire emergency. David Black of DB Fire Safety Limited was also heavily involved in helping to develop the fire strategy for the building as part of the general construction of the flats.
This included the installation of a fire detection and alarm system, emergency lighting, dry risers, smoke extraction, and fire extinguishers.
Greensleeves Care Homes
DB Fire Safety was involved in updating the fire risk assessments of the residential care homes owned and managed by Greensleeves Care Homes. In a number of cases, our assessments have identified issues overlooked by previous inspections.

Scotadales Garden Centres employs David Black of DB Fire Safety Limited to carry out fire risk assessments on their garden centres.
Haines Watts
DB Fire Safety Limited was asked to carry out a fire risk assessment on the building occupied by a well-known firm of accountants in Peterborough. David Black identified a substantial number of issues that had been overlooked by previous assessments. This included the fact that the main electrical wiring had not been tested or certified by a suitability qualified electrical contractor, and that clients’ archived files were not being restored in fire-resistant cabinets. Other issues identified included no documented set of fire procedures, and a lack of fire extinguishers.
Penn Elcom
DB Fire Safety Limited was asked to carry out a fire risk assessment of the building occupied by the world’s leading manufacturer of flight cases, speaker cabinet hardware, and 19-inch racking solutions. Although previous fire risk assessments had been carried out, David Black of DB Fire Safety Limited identified a great many issues of serious concern. This included a lack of fire marshals and a serious lack of fire separation throughout the factory and stores.
